Favourite comics: Superboy #182 - the first meeting of Superboy and Batman by Bob Brown , Murphy Anderson and Leo Dorfman
Superboy was a comic that I only really interested me when it featured the Legion of Super-Heroes however, there were the odd exceptions where the urge to pick up a copy of the boy of steels comic minus the Legion was overwhelming. One such issue was Superboy #182 featuring an intriguing cover by the great Nick Cardy in a story where Superboy uses a machine, a 'time-scope' that can see into the future, a DC staple in telling "what if" type tales back in the day. The added interest in this tale was that this story tells of the first meeting between Superboy and a young Batman,or rather the Executioner!
In addition to the above main story this issue also featured an "Album of Unsung Heroes" tale and a reprint of a Super-baby tale

These comic strips certainly had a unique charm about them, eh, McS? I only have a few Superboy mags, so maybe I should hunt some down to add to my collection. Incidentally, you never commented on part 3 of my Conan Saga Cover Gallery. No Neal Adams included, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteAs a 10 year old I liked Superboy mostly as the covers were so good ( by Adams and Cardy) but there was certainly a charm to them . I have picked a few Superboy back issues from the 1970s in sales in the last 3 or so years and enjoyed them. Sorry I 've been travelling the last 3 weeks , we were in USA visiting family and travelling in the state with veryand limited internet access . We only returned yesterday a bit jet lagged to hear an elderly family member (91) had broken his hip so been helping out with him. Luckily he's getting better. I will catch up with my blogs later been commenting on a few when I 've had time and interent.
ReplyDeleteYou should've mentioned you were away so that I could've broken into your house and nicked all your best mags, McS. Nobody'll look after them the way I would. Get some sleep, old timer.
