Top Tens: The Halloween & horror covers of Bernie Wrightson
I first became aware of Bernie Wrightson (1948 - 2017 ) in the early 1970's , when he and writer Len Wein created comics most famous muck monster, Swamp Thing. Although I came to the Swamp Thing late with my first issue being #8 (Bernie's last issue on the title being #10) I did manage to console myslef by picking up several of his amazing covers and strips in many of DC and Marvel's mystery / horror comics - some of my favourites are noted below.

The only issue I have of the bunch is the Swamp Thing one. I do have some House Of Mystery mags, but none of the ones you show here. Just when I think I've already got far too much stuff, McS, you show me something else I'll have to consider adding to my collection. Some nice images there, sure enough.
ReplyDeleteSadly Bernies art only appears on the covers of almost all of these comics ( not Swamp Thing of course) I picked up 3 of these last month on a trip to Brighton for a wee holiday for £3 each , House of Mystery 255, 256 and the Gargoyle #1
ReplyDeleteBerni Wrightson and I showed up at the comics thing at about the same time. His eerie artwork was always compelling and his Swamp Thing issues were stellar.
ReplyDeleteBernie was always one of my favourite artists. His Swamp Thing was without doubt stellar, I wish he had drawn a few more of them
