My final selection of comics from my favourite year, for now. Most of the comics shown here I have repurchased in the last 10 or so years but in many cases I still own my original, albeit tatty issues from over 50 years !!!.
For your information it was the Elongated Man the was the new member that joined the JLA.

Yet another great selection of covers, McScotty! It's a good thing that comics today didn't still have covers that enticing, otherwise I'd be spending a lot more each week. Do you actually have a spinner rack? I'd love to have one, but they seem to be priced at around $1,000 on eb*y , even if you can find one.
ReplyDeleteI would love a spinner rack Ian but I don't have the space now ( having downsized) or the money to spend $1000 (yikes!) I'm afraid . I remember seeing a spinner rack in a skip from a shop that was getting refitted back in the early 1970s and was tempted but had no way to get it home .
DeleteI was a little spotty on the DC offerings, but I sure snatched up all the Marvel stuff back then. Loved that Ant-Man era and I wish they'd done more with it. The summer Avengers-Defenders Clash is a highlight of the year for sure. And Elongated Man finally joining the JLA was a good thing as well. Great gallery of memories.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Ant-man and that series as well. A few of the DC titles I only purchased as it had a artist I was interested in like Russ Heath onOur Army at War . The Avenger v Defenders series was a classic at the time I remember that the titles were easily available ( with a little work) in Glasgow which was great to get a complete story.
ReplyDeleteI definitely had two of these comics (Secret Origins, Detective Comics), maybe three (Defenders), and I still have the former two issues today, though they're replacements for my originals which I had for nowhere near as long. Whenever I despair that most comics nowadays are not as good as they used to be, I take consolation in the fact that there are so many mags from the '60s and '70s that I never knew about and can buy them now if I want to. Just acquired one that I've fancied for a long time, which I'll be putting on the blog soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen ever I visit a comic book shop I immediately head for the back issue section now. Not only do they have ( imho) better older comics but many are cheaper than a new comic I picked up 2 Worlds Finest 100 page / Dollar comics for £3 each last weekend ( both with Neal Adams covers) . Look forward to seeing what conic you picked up
