Happy New Year: Batman: "Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot...""

The Batman Adventure Holiday Special (cover by Bruce Timm) was a one shot 64 page special published in December 1994 (cover dated January 1995). It features a delightful collection of 5 holiday themed short stories showcasing the work of some of the most talented artists and writers on the animated series including Bruce Timm, Dan Riba, Paul Dini and Ronnie Del Cameron. The strip below “ Should old Acquaintance be forgot” by Paul Dini and Dan Riba finishes this excellent comic collection and is a nice New Year’s type tale to round of this blog for 2023. hghfgh
As we say in Scotland at this time of year "Lang may yer lum reek!" (ok we only really say that to tourist - it means may you have enough coal to heat your home etc) and all the best for 2023. Have a great Hogmanay (31 December) and Ne'erday (1 Janaury) and I hope 2023 brings you all you wish for.

    Happy New Year! "Hogmanay" and "Ne'erday" are new to me. Fascinating. Best wishes for 2023 for you and yours.

    Same to you and yours Rip . New years is a big thing in Scotland - Hogmanay is from the Norse and Scots gaelic . Ne'erday is just Scots for "new day". Be lucky I never mentioned first footing and black bun lol

    My father was Scottish and I never heard him say "Lang may yer lum reek" but he did mention first footing. He told me that Hogmanay was a big thing in Scotland but Christmas Day was just a normal working day when he was a boy in Glasgow in the 1930s.

      Yeah Christmas wasn't a public holiday in Scotland until the late 1950s and boxing day only became a holiday in the mid 1970s. Lang nay yer lum reek is a term used now more in jest Colin .

    "Happy New Year!" to you too, Paul, come Saturday night. No doubt we'll be seeing the New Year in courtesy of Jules Holland's Hootenanny on iPlayer.
    Great choice of Batman tale, btw. I've tried to find a paper copy of that Holiday Special, but nowhere to be found in my LCS chain, and copies on eBay are really exorbitant!

    That's exactly what I will be watching Ian. Long gone are the days of all night new years parties lol. If you can track down a copy of this issue ( and any of the first 2 Batman Adventures annuals) its well worth it they are great fun reads more akin to 1960s Batman comics. If I see a cheap reading issue I'll let you know
